TORINO SMART CITY: ONE MORE REASON TO VISIT IT!

In 2009, the European Commission launched the Smart Cities project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2020 through improved energy efficiency of buildings, energy networks and transport systems. He has therefore decided to allocate important funds to support the cities that will obtain the title of smart cities thanks to the quality of the projects presented.

The City of Turin immediately adhered to the initiative, approving in 2010 the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy (TAPE – Turin Action Plan for Energy) involving transport, construction, services and industry, managing to reduce by 18, 7% of CO2 emissions compared to 2005.

Turin is preparing for the challenge to become a “smart city” with a close synergy between the public and private entities that operate in the area, and the contribution of local authorities, the Polytechnic and the University of Turin, the industry, the companies, associations, the banking system, to put technological innovation at the service of environmental sustainability.

Its objectives are the reduction of energy consumption of buildings, the diffusion of eco-compatible public and private mobility and the improvement of the quality of life thanks to the greater awareness and participation of citizens.

Always linked to Turin and the environment, the Environment Park was born in 1996, on the initiative of the Piedmont Region, the Province of Turin, the Municipality of Turin and the European Union; it represents an original experience in the panorama of Science and Technology Parks in Europe for having been able to combine technological innovation and eco-efficiency (http://www.envipark.com)
